Wright Still Can’t Play Saturday. The Line Is LSU -10.
No. 11 LSU and Clemson kick Saturday, Sept. 5, at Tiger Stadium in Baton Rouge. That is the date on both athletic sites. LSU lists 6:30 p.m. CT on ABC. Clemson's May 12 release and ESPN's window put it at 7:30 p.m. ET on ABC Saturday Night Football. Lane Kiffin, on Monday, told the room 6:49 p.m. CT — 7:49 Eastern — and said the stadium is sold out. Beat sites treated that as the actual snap, not a new TV window. If you are setting an alarm in Texas, use the ABC prime window and do not wander off at 6:30. Stream is ESPN.com or the ESPN app with a provider login, per the Post and Courier. College GameDay is on LSU's schedule links and the Post and Courier has GameDay live from Baton Rouge.
There is no score because there has been no game. Last year these teams opened in Clemson and LSU won 17-10. That is history. Saturday is not.
THE LINE, AS OF TUESDAY NIGHT, SEPT. 1
Do not invent a number. Quote the board.
VegasInsider's live book table for Clemson at LSU, pulled for this brief Tuesday night, had FanDuel at LSU -10.5 (-102), moneyline LSU -410 / Clemson +315, total 50.5. DraftKings and Caesars were both LSU -10 (DK -112, Caesars -109), moneyline about LSU -380 / Clemson +300. BetMGM and Bet365 were still LSU -10.5. Hard Rock was -10.5 with a 51.5 total. Consensus on that board: LSU -10.
Monday, NBC Sports posted "latest odds as of Monday courtesy of DraftKings": LSU -10.5 (-115), LSU -380 / Clemson +300, total 51.5. Clemson Wire, citing DraftKings on Aug. 28, had Clemson +10.5, +300, and 51.5, and logged the summer move: opened Clemson +11.5, tightened to +9.5, then back to +10.5 after LSU's NFL-add week. VegasInsider's Patrick Everson wrote that DraftKings opened LSU -11.5, bottomed at -9.5 in early August, then went to -10.5 on Aug. 26. Borgata's Tom Gable called this the most heavily bet Week 1 game and said the spread has lived between LSU -9.5 and -11.5.
So tonight the honest sentence is: LSU is a 10- to 10.5-point home favorite depending on the book, with DraftKings and Caesars at -10 and FanDuel at -10.5. ESPN's site, via the Post and Courier, had LSU -10.5 and a 51.5 total. CBS Sports on Tuesday used "10-point underdog" in a Swinney story without naming a shop.
PROJECTION, not a lock: Wright is not in Saturday's number if the 7-day rule is real, and Kiffin told the AP it is. The market already bounced around the NFL-add headlines and is still a touchdown-and-a-half home favorite. That is line movement plus an injury/eligibility clock. It is not a pick against the world. Do not bet this desk. Do not treat a projection as a cover.
ROSTER, RIGHT NOW — WHAT IS CONFIRMED, WHAT IS NOT
LSU has not posted an official two-deep. Glenn Guilbeau at Tiger Rag reported Monday that Kiffin will not drop the chart until Saturday in the press box. If a site hands you 22 names this week, it is a beat projection unless Kiffin said it.
What Kiffin did say: most spots have "settled down," except defensive tackle, where he will rotate old and young. Tiger Rag, from Saturday's scrimmage look, had true freshman Deuce Geralds and junior Dominick McKinley with the ones at tackle that day, Richard Anderson and Malik Blocton behind them, and Princewill Umanmielen and Jordan Ross as the ones on the edge. That is a scrimmage report, not a released depth chart.
Beat projections that agree enough to print as projections, not facts: Arizona State transfer Sam Leavitt at quarterback; Wisconsin transfer Dilin Jones at running back; Trey'Dez Green at tight end; Jordan Seaton, Bo Bordelon, Braelin Moore, Aliou Bah, Weston Davis on the line (Tiger Rag guess; NOLA.com projection). Reveille's Tripp Buhler, Sept. 1, called Jones the starter, Moore the OL captain, and listed Weeks and TJ Dottery at linebacker, Ty Benefield at safety, DJ Pickett at corner. Unconfirmed until Saturday.
Clemson did confirm one thing Tuesday. Dabo Swinney named fourth-year junior Christopher Vizzina the starting quarterback for LSU. "CV is just a little ahead," Swinney said. "He's not a mile ahead, but he's ahead." He said freshman Tait Reynolds will likely play and both can run the offense — 98.1 The Sports Animal and SportsTalkSC from Tuesday's availability. Vizzina's only prior start was SMU last year (29-of-42, 317, three scores), which is on the record. The rest of Clemson's lineup is not on an official Week 1 chart tonight. Reveille, Sept. 1: four of five offensive line spots are set, right guard is not, and Harris Sewell has moved to center. NBC Sports flagged T.J. Moore as the leading returning receiver (52-837-4 in 2025) and Sammy Brown as the leading tackler (106). Clemson DT Vic Burley, who had the most interior experience in that Reveille preview, is on an indefinite suspension after an August disorderly-conduct arrest. Do not pencil him in.
Injuries: no fresh official Week 1 report found tonight. LSU corner Aidan Anding tore an Achilles in April; Kiffin said then he was out for the season (Daily Advertiser, Tiger Rag). That is still the last sourced word. Weather: not sourced. Omit.
WRIGHT, TONIGHT — UPDATE ON THE PRIOR POST
Capitol and Cleats already wrote that Wright practiced and cannot play Saturday under the 7-day acclimatization rule. Tuesday night that still holds. No AP, beat, or official source found tonight that puts him on the Clemson gameday roster.
Brett Martel at the Associated Press: former Browns tight end Dae'Quan Wright was in Kiffin's Monday walk-through. First day on the field was Monday, "meaning he would not be permitted to play against Clemson under the NCAA's mandated seven-day 'acclimatization protocol.'" WAFB, Tuesday, still had him "not expected to play against Clemson because he must complete NCAA acclimatization requirements." ESPN's Heather Dinich: Kiffin said the 105 is due Friday and it is too early to predict if late arrivals see the field in Week 1. That is the roster deadline talking. It is not a source saying the 7-day clock got waived.
Thursday in Baton Rouge is the legal fight — TRO versus the SEC's pro-player ban, show-cause language on ESPN — not a magic trick that creates six extra practice days. If someone tells you Wright is cleared for Saturday because a judge might speak Thursday, they are mixing two clocks. The court clock is eligibility versus the league. The NCAA acclimatization clock started Monday. Saturday is day six if you count Monday. The rule Kiffin cited is seven days. We are not inventing a loophole.
Also on that grass: former Notre Dame defensive lineman Junior Tuihalamaka, who did not sign an NFL contract, started practicing earlier than Wright, AP said, and was in the Monday walk-through. Kiffin would not predict Week 1 snaps. Do not invent that he plays or sits. Zxavian Harris (Saints/Ole Miss) and Blake Cotton (Broncos/Utah) are in the same lawsuit pile. AP said whether they ever suit up remains in doubt. CBS, citing Geaux247, had LSU "eyeing" Cotton. Harris was not confirmed practicing in the AP Monday story. Do not write that he was.
Jack Pyburn is off this board. The Kansas City Chiefs claimed him off waivers Monday after Tampa Bay cut him, AP and ESPN's Adam Schefter (via WBRZ) reported. He is withdrawing from the NCAA/SEC case and staying in the league. Saturday Down South had his agents, Christian Addison and Harold Lewis, on that. Expected to return to LSU is not the same as claimed by the Chiefs.
From Austin, Steve Sarkisian drew the moral line the same Monday Wright walked through. "The fact that somebody out there is going to take a player off an NFL roster and tell somebody who's been (on their college team) for nine months go kick rocks? That doesn't sit well with me," Sarkisian said, per AP. "I think that is wrong; that is morally wrong." He said SEC presidents "got this right." ESPN had the same quote from his Week 1 availability. That is the Dallas-to-SEC argument in one clip: Texas' coach telling the league a two-way door from a 53-man roster back to Saturday is a betrayal of the nine-month roster.
From Clemson on Tuesday, Swinney went at the sport, not at Kiffin by name. He said his staff has been studying the Browns, Cowboys, Saints, and Bucs. He called the whole thing "embarrassing." "We have no rules. There's no governance. I mean, it's a joke," he said, per WAFB and CBS Sports. He said he does not blame the kids for using the system.
Kiffin told ESPN his leadership committee said bring them if they help win. He told WAFB he is in daily contact with the SEC to stay inside the rules. If the court hands the league its ban back, he said LSU will follow it. Friday is the 105. Saturday is Clemson. Watch who is actually on the list.
From Trinity, Texas, the hierarchy is still simple. A walk-through is not eligibility. A TRO is not a seventh practice. A Chiefs claim is a Chiefs claim. Sarkisian said morally wrong. Swinney said embarrassing. Kiffin said the real world. The only number that is real tonight is the one on the board, and the only Wright fact that is real tonight is the one Kiffin gave the AP: first day Monday, not permitted against Clemson.
