In Paris, Michael Kim opens the FedEx Open de France with a bogey-free 63.</p><p><br data-mce-bogus="1"></p><p>Thursday finally put a scoreboard on the Presidents Cup, and it did not come gift-wrapped for the United States.</p><p><br data-mce-bogus="1"></p><p>At Medinah Country Club’s Course No. 3 outside Chicago, Brandt Snedeker’s U.S. side took three of five four-ball matches and closed the opening session 3-2 over Geoff Ogilvy’s Internationals. Thirty points are on the table across four days. First team to 15.5 walks off with the cup. The Americans are chasing an 11th straight win in an event they own historically — 13-1-1 overall, with the Internationals’ only outright title still sitting in 1998 — and a one-point cushion after Day 1 is a start, not a coronation.</p><p><br data-mce-bogus="1"></p><p>The opener delivered the day’s tightest drama. World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler and Sam Burns, a pair that had been 0-3-1 together in prior Presidents Cup and Ryder Cup action, edged Min Woo Lee and Sungjae Im, 1-up. Im and Lee missed chances to seize the lead on Nos. 10 through 12. Burns answered Im’s birdie at the water-laden 13th with a dart at 14. On 17, Lee had to hole an eight-footer for par after Im’s long birdie attempt ran well by. At the last, Scheffler got up-and-down from a short-sided bunker to tap-in range, and Im’s 41-foot birdie try to salvage a half carried too much speed. Hideki Matsuyama and Ryo Hisatsune — only the second all-Japanese pairing in Presidents Cup history — took down Cameron Young and Xander Schauffele, 3 and 1. Young found water with an approach; Schauffele could not save the hole. The Internationals won the ninth to go 2-up and never gave the lead back.</p><p><br data-mce-bogus="1"></p><p>Justin Thomas and Presidents Cup rookie Jackson Koivun posted the Americans’ first point of the week, closing Corey Conners and Nico Echavarria 4 and 3. Thomas moves to 11-3-2 overall in this event and a perfect 7-0-0 in four-ball. Koivun birdied the par-5 third, yanked one out of bounds on the fourth, and got bailed out by Thomas birdies at four and five before finding his footing again. Thomas birdied 14 and 15 to finish it.</p><p><br data-mce-bogus="1"></p><p>Wyndham Clark and Collin Morikawa guaranteed the U.S. the session with a 3-and-2 win over Ryan Fox and Adam Scott. Clark birdied three of the first four holes and led the field Thursday in strokes gained putting. Morikawa nearly aced the par-3 16th; Scott answered with a 15-foot birdie that still was not enough.</p><p><br data-mce-bogus="1"></p><p>The Internationals’ second point came from the Kim pairing. Tom Kim and Si Woo Kim never really let Chris Gotterup and Patrick Cantlay settle, recovering after the Americans got the match back to all square on six and closing it 3 and 2. Tom Kim nearly aced the 165-yard 16th to punctuate it.</p><p><br data-mce-bogus="1"></p><p>Friday shifts to foursomes at Medinah. Same cup. Same slim American lead. Plenty of golf left.</p><p><br data-mce-bogus="1"></p><p>Elsewhere on Thursday, the FedEx Open de France opened at Le Golf National outside Paris. Defending champion Michael Kim posted a bogey-free 8-under 63 — eight birdies, first trip around the renovated venue after last year’s win came at Saint-Nom-La-Bretèche — and leads by two. Seven players share second at 65: Jason Scrivener, Kristoffer Reitan, Thriston Lawrence, Matteo Manassero, Gregorio De Leo, Matt Fitzpatrick, and Sam Bairstow. Viktor Hovland and Ryan Gerard sit at 67. Tommy Fleetwood opened with a 69.</p><p><br data-mce-bogus="1"></p><p>Two boards. One Thursday. Narrow Lead at Medinah

<p>Wednesday’s SEC availability report did what Monday’s pressers only hinted at. Tight end Trey’Dez Green is OUT for Saturday. Safety Dashawn Spears is OUT. Wideout Phillip Wright III is OUT. Corner Ja’Keem Jackson is doubtful. Safety Tamarcus Cooley is questionable. That is the board No. 10 LSU (2–1, 0–1 SEC) carries into a 6:30 p.m. CT ABC night against No. 23 Texas A&amp;M (2–1, 0–1) in Tiger Stadium — first SEC win still sitting there for whoever takes it.</p><p>Green’s OUT line was the one everybody waited on. The Zachary tight end leads the Tigers with 222 receiving yards on 14 catches. He left Oxford early in the fourth after a catch-and-run, and his mother’s Sunday Facebook note — MRI with no torn ligaments, no surgery, “some bad sprains and bruises, miss “some games” — was the best version of bad news September hands you. KBTX and And The Valley Shook both logged him OUT on the first midweek sheet. Spears, the Denham Springs junior who started the first three, is already done for the year with the ACL. Wright III is season-ending too. Depth is not a slogan this week. It is the depth chart.</p><p>Lane Kiffin spent Wednesday talking about the other half of the Oxford hangover: Sam Leavitt. Protection, crowd noise, music playing through the snap with the center’s hand on the ball — those were Kiffin’s words on why the night got ragged under center, per WWL/Audacy’s Jeff Palermo. “So there are a lot of things to improve on around him and he’ll do better and play better this week.” Fair. Death Valley is supposed to flip that script. The visitor hears the noise. The home center does not.</p><p>Mike Elko’s Aggies bring their own sheet. Terry Bussey is OUT for the season after the Kentucky kickoff. Running back Jamarion Morrow and wideout Ashton Bethel-Roman are questionable after missing that 31–21 home loss, per KBTX’s Wednesday report. Elko’s line to the media this week was process over panic: go back to work, prove Kentucky wasn’t who they are. Marcel Reed still walks into Baton Rouge with two straight wins over purple on the ledger and legs that Tuesday’s Field already spent a full column trying to cage. The injury sheet does not erase that tape. It just tells you who will not be on the grass when the lights come up.</p><p>So Thursday is simple. Green sits. Spears sits. Wright sits. Jackson is a doubt. Cooley is a question. Purple still has to make Tiger Stadium feel like Saturday night against a ranked visitor that wants the same first conference win. The availability report already told the truth. Death Valley has to answer it.</p>

<p>CNN, MS NOW, and Politico get their hard passes back for 14 days while the lawsuit moves.</p><p><br data-mce-bogus="1"></p><p>A federal judge ordered early Thursday that the White House restore access for CNN, MS NOW, and Politico. NBC News reported U.S. District Judge Timothy Kelly granted a 14-day temporary restraining order, finding President Donald Trumps ban on the three outlets was likely unconstitutional and that their credentials were pulled without due process. That is not a final win. It is a court telling the executive branch it cannot freeze out reporters for the tone of their coverage and call it process.</p><p><br data-mce-bogus="1"></p><p>I write this with a baby monitor somewhere in the house. Press access is not a media club fight. It is how parents find out what the White House is doing on war, taxes, and schools before the spin hardens. Trump announced the ban on Truth Social last Friday, citing “FAKE NEWS,” per NBC News. Kelly rejected the later national-security gloss, BBC News reported, noting the record did not show that yanking those hard passes would protect security.</p><p><br data-mce-bogus="1"></p><p>The Reporters Committee for Freedom of the Press, the White House Correspondents’ Association, and a group of 49 news organizations filed a brief backing the outlets, NBC News said. Empathy for a president who hates hostile coverage is human. Excusing a ban that skips the rules courts already set for hard-pass revocations is not. The White House sent letters Tuesday offering written contests by Friday. Kelly still found the process inadequate under D.C. Circuit precedent.</p><p><br data-mce-bogus="1"></p><p>On Capitol Hill, the contrast is sharp. The Hill reported Senate Majority Leader John Thune saying banning outlets is “not my policy, and that the courts will decide the White House fight. Senate Republicans told The Hill they are fine with reporters moving freely around the Capitol even as the White House tried to lock three doors. That split matters. One branch still lets the public’s proxies ask questions in the hallway.</p><p><br data-mce-bogus="1"></p><p>Fourteen days is short. The lawsuit continues. If the ban comes back without real standards published in advance, voters should treat that as the story, not the insults on Truth Social. Kids grow up under whoever holds the briefing room. No. 10 LSU (2–1, 0–1 SEC) erased a 24–7 hole against No. 8 Ole Miss, tied it at 24, then watched Trinidad Chambliss finish a 32–24 Magnolia Bowl that Lane Kiffin told the local media Monday was “right there to be won.” Two open guys in the end zone. A field goal from the three. An interception with under a minute. “Tell the Truth Monday” under Kiffin — the old Orgeron staple — did not soft-pedal any of it.</p><p><br data-mce-bogus="1"></p><p>Then the roster news landed harder than the scoreboard.</p><p><br data-mce-bogus="1"></p><p>Dashawn Spears, the junior star from Denham Springs who had started all three games, is done for the year with a torn ACL in his left knee. Kiffin called him “a really unique player” and “a special player” and admitted it is “going to be a really tough loss.” Trey’Dez Green, the Zachary tight end who leads LSU with 222 receiving yards on 14 catches, is expected to miss Saturday against Texas A&amp;M and possibly a game or two after that — no torn ligaments, per Tiger Rag sourcing, which is the best version of bad news you get in September. Phillip Wright III is already season-ending. Reliford and Anding never made it out of the preseason. Kiffin’s count Monday: fifth and sixth guys lost for the year since he got here. “That’s a crazy number. It’s unfortunate.” Sophomore CJ Jimcoily and redshirt freshman Jhase Thomas are the names at star. Matt Grace and Malachi Thomas are the TE depth Kiffin said you sign for nights like this.</p><p><br data-mce-bogus="1"></p><p>That is the board. Wednesday is not about pretending otherwise.</p><p><br data-mce-bogus="1"></p><p>It is about what the locker room said when the mics came back on.</p><p><br data-mce-bogus="1"></p><p>Wideout Winnie Watkins Jr. and safety Ty Benefield faced the media Tuesday (Reveille, Sept. 23) with the only posture that works after an SEC opener that got away. “We put that in the past,” Benefield said. “The locker room is ready to go for A&amp;M.” Watkins: “We definitely gotta come together and just understand that if we went 0-1 we gotta find a way to get back to our self. We got a long season, we gotta keep stacking days.” On Green: “I’m telling everybody keep praying for him, keep Trey’Dez in your prayers. It’s a very unfortunate thing that happened.” Benefield again, when the conversation turned to whoever lines up across from him Saturday: “I want to go against the best competition. I don’t care who’s in front of me.” And the line that belongs on a locker-room wall: he wants “all parts of any fight.”</p><p><br data-mce-bogus="1"></p><p>Good. Because No. 23 Texas A&amp;M (2–1, 0–1 SEC) is walking into Death Valley on Saturday at 6:30 p.m. CT on ABC looking for the same first SEC win LSU is. The Aggies fell 31–21 to Kentucky and tumbled from No. 9. Terry Bussey is out for the season. Marcel Reed remains the problem with legs — Tuesday’s Field already spent a full column on whether purple can put a cage on them — and Benefield’s “best competition” line is the defensive answer without replaying that tape. This week’s job is simpler and meaner: stack the days, fill the holes, and make Tiger Stadium do what it does on a Saturday night when both sides are 0–1 in the league and bleeding bodies.</p><p><br data-mce-bogus="1"></p><p>Ed Orgeron, ill for weeks and missing practices and all three games, was heard booming from the football ops building after Kiffin’s Monday session. Tiger Rag floated that he may have a chance to be on the sideline Saturday. If Coach O’s voice is back in the valley while Jimcoily and Thomas try to wear Spears’ star and Grace/Thomas try to wear Green’s snaps, that is not nostalgia — that is the week.</p><p><br data-mce-bogus="1"></p><p>Oxford haunted them on film. A&amp;M does not care. Death Valley starts at 6:30. Stack the days. Want all parts of the fight. First SEC win is still sitting there for whoever takes it.</p>

All Parts of the Fight: Purple Stacks Days With a Thinned Roster and Death Valley Waiting

<p>Monday’s column was the hangover. Tuesday is the homework. No. 10 LSU (2–1, 0–1 SEC) hosts No. 23 Texas A&amp;M (2–1, 0–1) Saturday at 6:30 p.m. CT on ABC in Tiger Stadium, and the midweek tape that matters is not another Oxford recap. It is Marcel Reed against a defensive front that has to keep him inside the white lines.</p><p><br data-mce-bogus="1"></p><p>Lane Kiffin put the numbers on the table after Oxford: in the last two meetings with the Tigers, Reed carried 22 times for 272 yards and five rushing touchdowns — just under eight yards a pop — while completing 14 of 23 for 272 yards and two scores through the air, per LSU Football Report’s presser write-up. That is why the buzzword this week is a cage rush, or a fence rush. Contain first. Chase second. Or Death Valley gets another purple-and-gold highlight reel that does not belong to purple and gold.</p><p><br data-mce-bogus="1"></p><p>Mike Elko’s Monday answer from Kyle Field was the other half of the week. Saturday against Kentucky “wasnt up to the standard,” he told the media on 12th Man’s LSU Game Week tape, and the challenge now is to respond on the road against a top-10 team in an electric environment. Fair. The Aggies still have Reed’s mobility after ten carries for 80 yards and a rushing score in that 31–21 home loss, and they still have two straight wins over LSU on the ledger. Elko is undefeated against the Tigers in two seasons at A&amp;M. That streak does not care about poll drops.</p><p><br data-mce-bogus="1"></p><p>The roster bruise that changes the script for Sam Leavitt is TreyDez Green. LSU Wire and Tiger Rag both tracked the Sunday update: MRI showed no ligament tears after the Oxford cart-off, but Green’s mother said he will miss some games with bad sprains and bruises. Kiffin called the Green and Dashawn Spears situations “not ideal for sure,” with Spears season-ending and Green’s Saturday availability still waiting on the Wednesday SEC report. Behind Green sit junior transfers Zach Grace and Malachi Thomas — neither had a catch in relief at Ole Miss. That is a different middle of the field if the 6-foot-7 leading receiver (222 yards entering the week) is in street clothes when Reed walks into Death Valley.</p><p><br data-mce-bogus="1"></p><p>So the midweek ask is concrete. Can Blake Baker’s front fence Reed the way Kentucky could not? Can Leavitt find the next body when Green is out? Can purple answer a 0–1 SEC start at home under the lights instead of arguing about rankings that already moved? Saturday night does the grading. The homework started yesterday.</p>

The political board is louder.</p><p><br data-mce-bogus="1"></p><p>Several farm-state Republicans this week asked President Donald Trump to cut record-high diesel prices tied to the Iran war, Digest Wire reported, even if that means crossing oil-and-gas allies. Sen. Chuck Grassley posted that high diesel is “KILLING FARMERS INCOME and urged Trump to “put an embargo on diesel exports like presidents in the 70s put embargoes on ag products bc food prices were inflated.” Michigan’s Mike Rogers and Iowa’s Ashley Hinson backed a temporary diesel-export embargo and an end to the Iran war; Reps. Zach Nunn and Mariannette Miller-Meeks also called for diesel relief, per the same Digest Wire wrap.</p><p><br data-mce-bogus="1"></p><p>The White House is bracing for another Senate war-powers push aimed at ending hostilities with Iran, the Washington Examiner reported Tuesday morning, and is largely unfazed by the Democrat-led effort even as affordability arguments grow inside the party. The calendar already tees up H. Con. Res. 89 — directing the president under the War Powers Resolution to remove U.S. forces from hostilities against Iran&nbsp; for consideration no later than Oct. 2, with six hours of debate and a vote on adoption, per the Sept. 22 Senate Calendar.</p><p><br data-mce-bogus="1"></p><p>Also parked: H.R. 3633, the digital-commodities bill with SEC/CFTC oversight and a ban on Federal Reserve retail products and CBDC monetary policy, with cloture mechanics already waived on the motion to proceed. Digest Wire says energy-permitting talks missed an unofficial weekend deadline, and Sen. Jon Husted’s Ratepayer Protection Act — aimed at data-center power costs — is still in the maybe pile. College sports cloture at 5:30 is the easy procedural print. The <a data-mce-href="https://capitolandcleats.com/blog/the-people-voted-the-court-erased-it" href="https://capitolandcleats.com/blog/the-people-voted-the-court-erased-it" data-mce-selected="inline-boundary">harder</a> print is farm-state Republicans publicly asking for a diesel export embargo in an oil war their president owns. If the chamber flies home without moving war powers or power costs, the midterm incentive wins the week. Watch the time agreement and whether Grassley’s embargo talk becomes a floor amendment — not a speech.</p>

Texas A&amp;M comes to Tiger Stadium Saturday, Sept. 26, 6:30 p.m. CT on ABC — first true road game of the year for Mike Elko’s bunch, night kick in Death Valley, and a Week 4 SEC scrap that already feels like a season hinge. Good Bull Hunting and Aggies Wire both framed it that way Monday: LSU fell 32–24 at Ole Miss, A&amp;M fell 31–21 at home to Kentucky, and whoever loses this one walks into October at 2–2 and 0–2 in the league.</p><p><br></p><p>The series still leans purple historically, but the Aggies have taken five of the last eight and the last two meetings, including last year’s 49–25 wreck in Baton Rouge when Marcel Reed ran wild. Reed has seven touchdowns against the Tigers across those two games, five of them on the ground, per Good Bull Hunting’s first glance. That is the tape Blake Baker’s front has to answer. Sam Leavitt still owns the purple headset after the Magnolia Bowl comeback that fell short. Aggies Wire says star tight end Trey’Dez Green — LSU’s leading receiver through three weeks — is unlikely to face A&amp;M after getting carted off in Oxford, with a return expected sooner rather than later. Corner Dashawn Spears is reportedly done for the year. A&amp;M is dealing with its own nicks: Terry Bussey hurt on the opening kick against Kentucky and not expected back soon; freshman back KJ Edwards also left that game.</p><p><br></p><p>The national remote that matters beyond Baton Rouge is No. 1 Texas at No. 14 Tennessee on Saturday — noon ET window, Neyland, both still undefeated entering the week per ESPN’s preview board. Fine. Watch Arch Manning on the road if you want. This desk’s Saturday night is Death Valley, purple trying to get to 3–1 before McNeese, A&amp;M trying not to start conference play 0–2 after getting punched at home by Kentucky.</p><p><br></p><p>Oxford already happened. The scoreboard already hurt. Saturday is about whether purple can sound like Death Valley again with A&amp;M in town — or whether Reed gets another night in purple.</p>

<p>Week 2 paid the right names and burned the quiet stars.</p><p><br></p><p>JSN went nuclear, CeeDee feasted, Chase bounced back — and Monday Night still has Giants-Rams left.</p><p><br></p><p>By Rhett Landry</p><p><br></p><p>Week 2 did not put on the same fireworks show as the opener, and that is fine. You still got paid if you rode the right names, and you still got burned if you trusted a quiet night from a star. The Giants and Rams still have Monday Night left at SoFi, so anybody with skin in that game waits until after dark. Everybody else can start sorting the wire.</p><p><br></p><p>Seattle put Jaxon Smith-Njigba on another planet. ESPN had him at 42.5 fantasy points with Drew Lock under center, a personal best after the breakthrough year he already posted in 2025. That is not a fluke flash. Lock found him at every level, and Week 3 against Washington looks like another invitation.</p><p><br></p><p>Dallas ate Washington alive, and CeeDee Lamb was the main course. Eight catches on nine targets, 153 yards, two scores, 35.3 points in the late window. Dak Prescott threw for four touchdowns and nearly 30 fantasy points himself. Jake Ferguson snuck into the TE1 conversation with two red-zone scores. If you sat Lamb after a quiet week, you already know how that felt.</p><p><br></p><p>Philadelphia got weird and still found a way. Saquon Barkley took a stinger early, came back briefly, then shut it down pending an MRI. DeVonta Smith did not care. He took a 38 percent target share with A.J. Brown gone to New England and dropped 27.7 points, the kind of night managers will point back to if this really is his WR1 year. Dallas Goedert left with a knee; Tank Bigsby got the early and red-zone work when Barkley was out, and ESPN’s Tristan Cockcroft flagged him as the Week 3 pickup if Saquon's MRI goes sideways.</p><p><br></p><p>Ja’Marr Chase reminded everybody why you do not panic after one dud. After a 3.2-point Week 1, he caught seven of nine for 75 and two touchdowns against Houston and finished with 26.5. Talent wins. Trust your first-rounder.</p><p><br></p><p>New Orleans kept rolling. Tyler Shough threw for 252 and a score, ran for another, and cleared 22 fantasy points for the second straight week. Chris Olave ate ten targets for 86 and a touchdown. FantasyPros has Shough inside the top five in scoring through two weeks, right next to Bryce Young, who carved Atlanta for 287, three passing scores, and a rushing touchdown in a 34-3 blowout. Young is a real streamer now, not a novelty.</p><p><br></p><p>Travis Kelce looked like Travis Kelce again on Sunday night. Nine of eleven targets, 101 yards, a touchdown, 25.1 points. Play speed in the route and after the catch. TE1 for Miami next week, no debate.</p><p><br></p><p>The ugly board was longer. Bijan Robinson managed only 11.1 against Carolina in a game Atlanta never had a chance to finish. Justin Jefferson went quiet in a wet Chicago afternoon. Drake London is stuck until Michael Penix or Tua Tagovailoa get healthy. Marvin Harrison Jr. ran routes and caught nothing on one target; FantasyPros is already telling managers in standard leagues it is not crazy to cut him. <p>Jacob Bridgeman came from five back, posted a career-best 61, and won the inaugural Biltmore Championship by two.</p><p><br></p><p>Jacob Bridgeman came into Sunday five shots back at The Cliffs at Walnut Cove and left with the trophy for the inaugural Biltmore Championship Asheville. The South Carolina kid posted a career-best 10-under 61, finished at 26-under 258, and beat PGA Tour rookie Ben James by two. That is a second Tour win this season for Bridgeman, who already had The Genesis Invitational on the résumé, and it is a heck of a tune-up the week before he shows up at Medinah as one of Brandt Snedeker’s Presidents Cup picks.</p><p><br></p><p>The golf was soft and silly after the rain. Preferred lies all week. Everybody knew low was out there. J.T. Poston, the local favorite and course member, hung a bogey-free 60 and nearly made it a 59 before a 25-footer slipped by. James matched Bridgeman’s 61 and still came up short at 24-under 260 after birdieing three of his last four and scrambling for par on 18. Neal Shipley, who had owned the 54-hole lead after a bogey-free tear through 60 holes, could not keep up. He waited until the par-5 eighth for his first birdie, closed in 69, and tied Ricky Castillo (65) for third at 23-under 261.</p><p><br data-mce-bogus="1"></p><p>Bridgeman’s day was the putter. Eight birdies and an eagle, plus a couple of nervy pars that kept the chase alive — a 13-footer on 11 and a 12-footer after bunker-to-bunker on 12 — then three straight birdies to pull away. Greyserman’s week nudged him inside the FedEx Cup Fall bubble at 97th; Shipley climbed from 183rd to 135th with the podium check, still hunting that top-100 card for 2027.</p><p><br data-mce-bogus="1"></p><p>Next up for Bridgeman is Presidents Cup week. For the Fall, Bank of Utah waits Oct. 1–4. On a rain-softened mountain course, the kid from an hour down the road wrote the first chapter with a 61 and a two-shot cushion.
